Melanotan-1 (Afamelanotide)
Melanotan-1, also known as afamelanotide, is a synthetic analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It binds the MC1 receptor with substantially higher affinity and stability than endogenous α-MSH, producing sustained melanogenesis in preclinical research. It has been studied for photoprotection in erythropoietic protoporphyria and for general melanogenic response.
